Poma was brought into the project to create the perforated metal panels which adorn the building’s North, East, and West elevations. In addition to its purpose of providing parking, the building houses 15,000 SF of retail space.

The project’s design had a number of challenges for Poma and the design team.

  • The design had to account for a large degree of live load deflection that exists in a precast garage.
  • The building also had to maintaining a passively ventilated garage with the entire south elevation blocked.
  • It required a panel system which would provide subtle but legible lettering for both daytime and nighttime, and further highlight certain words and phrases using illuminated and non-illuminated letters.
  • The design also needed to minimizing the background structure for night-time viewing, a common issue when using backlit perforated metal.
  • The design team needed to ensure that no inappropriate words were inadvertently spelled out across multiple common languages.

Poma took great efforts to work with the design team to develop a system which could meet these demands elegantly using brake-formed unique panels with perforated metal.

Also known as the Arts & Letters Garage due, the project povides convenient parking for visitors to the nearby Bass Museum of Art, Miami City Ballet, and other popular attractions in the Collins Park neighborhood. It is also a popular parking spot for beachgoers who want to avoid the hassle of finding parking near the beach.
